About

USA built G&L Guitars & Basses

George Fullerton and Leo Fender began building guitars in Fullerton, California and continued the tradition for the rest of their lives moving G&L into a production facility that they had used in their Fender days and fitting it out with equipment that was in the main designed and built by them. To this very day Leo's Laboratory remains the same as it was on the day he did his last shift, went home and said the immortal words to his wife Phyllis, "I have given all I can to the musicians of the world".

Many of the staff on Fender Avenue worked with Leo and George and were in fact coached by them in how to build guitars. The Custom Shop G&Ls represent outstanding value when compared with other Custom Shop brands; more so when you weigh up the amount of work done by hand and the fact that there are more exclusive registered patents applied to G&L that any other Guitar and Bass brand we know of.

G&L wind their own Magnetic Field Design and Alnico pickups right there in Fullerton. These are much sought after as pickups in their own right although they are very hard to find since the decision was taken to make them exclusive to G&L guitars. Add to these the Dual Fulcrum Vibrato, Saddle Lock Bridge, Non Compressing Truss Rod and numerous components of the unique Bass Tone Circuitry, all of which are available on no other guitars. You can view more on these features on the "Unique Features Page" on this site.

You could be forgiven for thinking that all that Leo and George did before were the prototypes for G&L.
